As you look onto the banks of the river, you see wetlands with an abundance of wildlife living in their natural environment. In 1972 the head spring of the river was declared a National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The river and the 9 springs that comprise the river are protected natural resources with several state run parks that include campgrounds, nature trails and much more.
